For large retail companies, network uptime is critical: According to Gartner, the average cost of IT downtime is $5,600 per minute and up to $540,000 per hour.
They needed a better solution—something that could provide high bandwidth, be easily monitored, and keep their stores and distribution centers running smoothly even during outages. The company needed a solution that would work seamlessly in the event of a network failure and keep all its locations up and running.
To solve the problem, the company turned to Starlink, a satellite internet service known for its high-speed connections and reliable service. Wachter stepped in to complete the installation of Starlink dishes across 5,500 retail locations in just five months.
How Wachter Did It
Before starting the installations, each location received a site survey to determine the best place to install the satellite. While the surveys took place, 45 teams of Wachter technicians received project-specific training, tools, and documentation, ensuring the installation at each site was fast and undisruptive to business. Once each system was validated after installation, the Starlink systems were integrated into the company’s internal network.
In just five months, Wachter successfully installed Starlink systems at all 5,500 retail locations, even reaching sites in Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. The team was able to install up to 80 locations per day at the peak of the project. After the retail locations were upgraded, Wachter also helped install Starlink systems at the company's distribution centers and signed a service contract to provide ongoing support and maintenance.
With Starlink in place, the company’s backup network is stronger, more reliable, and capable of supporting its critical operations. Partnering with Wachter allowed this retailer to improve network reliability without the overhead costs of hiring and training technicians—let us help you achieve results like these.
